The idea
The brain has four main parts: the cerebrum, the diencephalon, the brain stem and the cerebellum.
In practice
The cerebrum is the largest, split into two hemispheres; the diencephalon includes the hypothalamus, key to homeostasis; the brain stem joins the spinal cord; the cerebellum sits below the back of the cerebrum.
