Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 22 MAS 539 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
Placing V Three to V Six
The idea
The remaining four chest electrodes follow fixed landmarks on the left side of the chest.
In practice
Place V four first, in the fifth intercostal space on the midclavicular line, a vertical line down from the middle of the collarbone. Then place V three midway between V two and V four. Next, V six goes on the midaxillary line, a line down from the middle of the armpit, level with V four. Last, V five goes on the anterior axillary line, from the front fold of the armpit, at the same level as V four and V six.
Where people slip
V five and V six are placed level with V four, horizontally, not following the curve of the ribs upward. Check the line across all three before you attach the wires.
