The idea
Once the electrodes and wires are attached, the machine records the tracing.
In practice
Ask the patient to lie still, and start the recording; the machine captures the heart's electrical pattern in a few seconds.
Where people slip
Inspect the printout for quality before you remove a single electrode, so a repeat recording needs no new setup.
