Pressure After the Draw

The idea
After the needle is out, apply gentle pressure to the site with clean gauze.
In practice
Ask the patient to hold the gauze in place with the arm extended and raised, not bent, because bending the arm can cause a hematoma.
Where people slip
Patients on blood thinners need pressure for longer; check the site before bandaging.
