Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 14 MAS 344 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Positioning the Ear for Drops
Captions available
The idea
Before ear drops, the ear canal is straightened by gently pulling the outer ear, and the direction depends on age.
In practice
For adults, pull the outer ear up and back; for children, pull it straight back; for infants, pull it down and back.
Where people slip
Aim drops at the side of the canal, not straight at the eardrum.
