Three Ways Wounds Heal
Captions available
The idea
Wounds heal in one of three ways: by primary, secondary or tertiary intention.
In practice
Primary intention means the wound was closed with sutures, staples or glue; secondary means it was left open to fill in; tertiary means it was left open or reopened, often for infection, and closed later.
Where people slip
Open wounds heal more slowly and carry more risk of infection.
