The idea
Many records use twenty-four-hour time, often called military time, to avoid confusion between morning and evening.
In practice
For morning times, drop the colon and lead with a zero: six thirty in the morning becomes zero six thirty. For evening times, add twelve: seven fifteen at night becomes nineteen fifteen.
Where people slip
Midnight is written as zero zero zero zero, and noon as twelve hundred.
