Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 6 MAS 130 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Speaking Up About an Order
Captions available
The idea
Federal rules encourage a culture in which staff are expected to raise concerns about a medication order with the prescriber.
In practice
If an order seems wrong for the patient in front of you, for example because of an allergy recorded in the chart, stop and ask before acting.
Where people slip
Asking is never insubordination; giving a medication you believe is wrong is the real failure.
