Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 5 MAS 110 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Digoxin for Heart Failure
Captions available
The idea
Digoxin, sold as Lanoxin, is a cardiac glycoside used for centuries to treat heart failure.
In practice
It makes the heart muscle contract more strongly, slows the heart rate, and slows conduction through the heart.
Where people slip
Because digoxin slows the heart, a slow pulse in a patient taking it is reported before anything else happens.
