Nitrates for Chest Pain
Captions available
The idea
Nitrates such as nitroglycerin treat angina, which is chest pain caused by too little blood flow to the heart muscle.
In practice
Nitrates widen the coronary arteries and veins; a tablet dissolved under the tongue is often prescribed for use as needed with stable angina.
Where people slip
Chest pain in the office is reported to the provider at once, whatever the patient carries.
