The idea
Corticosteroids reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system, and they come in several routes.
In practice
Fluticasone is a common inhaled corticosteroid for long-term asthma control, and a nasal spray for allergies; prednisone is a common oral corticosteroid.
Where people slip
Inhaled corticosteroids prevent attacks over time; they do not stop an attack under way.
