Leading AI at Work: Governance, Rollout and Practice / Unit 7 LAI 167 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
Drill: Align the Data Model
The idea
The book's drill for architects and data modelers aligns the data model with the things the business talks about.
In practice
Step one: take a data model or schema the team owns. Step two: label each table with the business thing it belongs to. Step three: spot tables that mix several things, which the book calls everything-bucket tables. Step four: propose a simpler mapping, with one primary table per thing and supporting tables around it. Step five: bring the proposal to the next design review, with the labelled schema beside it.
Where people slip
An everything-bucket table is often where hidden domain fracture lives in the data. Labelling the tables first, before proposing changes, is what makes the problem visible to people who do not read schemas.
