The idea
Applied behavior analysis examines the antecedent, the behavior and the consequence, the ABCs, and requires behavior to be observable, precisely defined and measured at baseline and afterward, by everyday adults.
In practice
If you can watch someone do it, it counts as behavior; "being disrespectful" does not.
Where people slip
The tradition descends from Thorndike's law of effect: behavior followed by satisfying consequences is repeated.
