College Composition / Unit 25 CMP 0614 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
A Web Page Entry
The idea
An MLA web page entry gives the author if known, the page title, the website as its container, the publisher if different, the date and the web address.
In practice
Build it in order. First, the author, if one is named. Second, the title of the page or short work in quotation marks. Third, the name of the website in italics, as the container. Fourth, the publisher or sponsoring organization, if it differs from the site's name. Fifth, the date of publication or last update. Sixth, the web address. An access date at the end is optional in MLA but can show which version you consulted; ask whether your instructor requires one.
Where people slip
When no author is listed, the entry begins with the page title, and the in-text citation uses a shortened form of that title. Do not list the website's name as the author unless an organization is responsible for the content.
