College Composition / Unit 16   CMP 0386 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Transitions Between Sections

The idea

Transitions work at three levels: between sentences, between paragraphs and between larger sections of a text.

In practice

A phrase such as "equally important" opening a new paragraph both links it to the last one and tells readers how the new idea ranks.

Where people slip

Longer pieces need section-level signals so readers know when the argument has moved to a new stage.
