College Composition / Unit 9 CMP 0205 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Titles: Italics or Quotation Marks
Captions available
The idea
Italicize titles of long works published on their own; put quotation marks around titles of shorter works that appear within larger ones.
In practice
Books, films, periodicals, albums and websites are italicized; articles, short stories, short poems, songs, episodes and chapters go in quotation marks.
Where people slip
Ask whether the work stands alone or is part of a larger whole.
