Revising means reseeing and rethinking a draft's content, structure and organization; editing improves sentences and words.
In practice
Global revisions change the piece as a whole; local revisions change a sentence or a word. When feedback asks for both, prioritize revision first.
Where people slip
Polishing the grammar of a paragraph you later delete wastes the work; revise before you edit.
