The idea
Translation elongation adds one amino acid at a time to the growing chain, as the ribosome moves codon by codon along mRNA.
In practice
A charged tRNA enters site A, its amino acid bonds to the chain at site P, and the ribosome shifts one codon.

Elongation repeats this cycle for every codon between start and stop — it never skips or reorders codons.
