The Lost ARC / Unit 1 ARC 014 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
The Three Questions
The idea
The book reduces itself to three questions, asked in order about any person you lead, and says that if you forget everything else, you should keep these three.
In practice
Step one: ask where this person is on the motivational hierarchy; part one of the book answers it. Step two: ask which of their needs, autonomy, relatedness or competence, is most supported or most frustrated right now; part two answers it. Step three: ask what trust climate they are working in, and whether your behaviour is activating their development or inhibiting it; parts three and four answer it.
Where people slip
The book claims these questions give a diagnostic precision that generic leadership advice lacks. Every later unit of this course feeds one of them, and the capstone applies all three together.
