Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 3   TSC 064 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Why Vessel Walls Differ

Captions available

The idea

Arteries and veins share three wall layers: the tunica intima inside, the tunica media in the middle, and the tunica externa outside.

In practice

Arteries have thicker walls because they carry blood at higher pressure; veins have thinner walls, wider passages, and valves in large limb veins.

Where people slip

A thin-walled vein tears more easily under traction, which is why retraction near large veins is gentle.
