Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 3   TSC 066 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Bone Types

Captions available

The idea

Bones are classed by shape as long, short, flat, irregular or sesamoid.

In practice

The femur and humerus are long bones; wrist and ankle bones are short; the skull, ribs and sternum are flat; vertebrae are irregular; sesamoid bones form inside tendons.

Where people slip

The classes describe shape, not size: finger bones are small but still long bones.
