Subcutaneous and Skin
Captions available
The idea
The final layers of closure are the subcutaneous tissue and the skin.
In practice
The subcutaneous layer is fat and loose connective tissue; the skin is closed with suture, staples or surgical glue, often chosen for cosmetic outcome and the surgeon's preference.
Where people slip
The count at skin closure is the last count before the dressing goes on.
