The idea
Scopes and laparoscopic instruments are among the hardest devices to clean and process, because of their channels, joints and insulation.
In practice
Scopes entering sterile tissue should ideally be sterilized; every channel is cleaned and processed with the correct connectors as the manufacturer directs.
Where people slip
Residue hides in joints and lumens, so point-of-use cleaning starts at the field.
