The idea
In laparoscopy, specimens are removed through one of the port sites, sometimes after enlarging the incision.
In practice
Trocars serve both as working ports and as routes for specimen removal; the specimen is then handled and labelled like any other.
Where people slip
Specimens removed this way are still labelled and passed off one at a time.
