Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 3   TSC 060 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Hypodermis Below

Captions available

The idea

The hypodermis, also called the subcutaneous layer or superficial fascia, lies directly below the dermis.

In practice

It is loose connective tissue and fat with a good blood supply, and it connects the skin to the deeper fascia of muscles and bones.

Where people slip

Its thickness varies greatly between patients, which changes how deep an incision must go before reaching muscle.
