Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 3 TSC 056 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Serous Membranes
Captions available
The idea
Serous membranes are thin double layers that line the walls of the ventral cavities and cover the organs inside them.
In practice
The parietal layer lines the wall and the visceral layer covers the organ, with fluid between; the pleura surrounds the lungs, the pericardium the heart, the peritoneum the abdominal organs.
Where people slip
The fluid lets organs slide against each other without friction.
