The idea
Incise drapes are adhesive plastic films applied to the skin, through which the incision is made.
In practice
The WHO surgical infection guideline suggests not using plastic adhesive incise drapes, with or without antimicrobial properties, for the purpose of preventing surgical site infection.
Where people slip
Some surgeons still use them for other reasons; the surgeon's preference card and facility policy decide.
