Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 14   TSC 331 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Solutions on the Back Table

Captions available

The idea

Sterile solutions are poured into sterile basins or containers on the back table by the circulating nurse.

In practice

Only sealed, unexpired solutions are used; they are poured from the side of the field, from about six inches, without splashing, and the container is labelled at once.

Where people slip

A splash can wick microbes through a drape, so a splashed area is treated as contaminated.
