The idea
Suction at the field can also be used to clear surgical smoke from the operative site.
In practice
Room suction systems used for smoke should have an in-line filter, and the nozzle is kept close to where the smoke is made.
Where people slip
A dedicated smoke evacuator is used when large amounts of smoke are produced.
