The idea
Surgery happens in three main kinds of setting: hospital operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, and clinics or offices.
In practice
Hospital rooms take the most complex cases; ambulatory centers take outpatient procedures with no overnight stay; offices take minor procedures under local anesthetic.
Where people slip
A sterile field is still required in any setting where skin is intentionally cut.
