Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 12   TSC 290 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Mosquito and Large Clamps

Captions available

The idea

Hemostats are sized to the vessel, from the small mosquito clamp to larger clamps for bigger vessels and dense tissue.

In practice

The mosquito is the smallest common hemostat, used for small bleeders in delicate surgery; larger clamps, such as the Kelly, handle larger vessels and tissue.

Where people slip

Using too small a clamp on a large vessel risks slipping, so size matters.
