Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 12   TSC 289 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Crile and Kelly

Captions available

The idea

Crile and Kelly clamps are two common hemostats with similar uses and similar looks.

In practice

The Crile is a standard non-toothed hemostat, often called a snap; the Kelly is a larger variation used to secure bleeders before they are tied or sealed.

Where people slip

Because they look alike, sets keep them in labelled order, and the surgeon's request decides which one is passed.
