Suction at the Field

The idea
Suction removes blood, fluid and debris from the surgical field so the surgeon can see.
In practice
Sterile suction tubing runs from a tip on the field to the room's suction source; the anesthesia provider keeps a separate suction to clear the patient's mouth.
Where people slip
A suction system that is not working is found during setup, not when bleeding starts.
