Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 9 TSC 202 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Fuels on the Field
Captions available
The idea
Almost everything on and around a surgical field can act as fuel for a fire.
In practice
Drapes, gowns, sponges and dressings burn; so do alcohol-based skin preparations, ointments, the patient's hair and the patient's tissue.
Where people slip
Wet sponges and towels burn far less readily than dry ones, which is one reason they are kept moist near ignition sources.
Your place on the trail
