The idea
A sterile package that falls to the floor is inspected for damage before it can be considered for use.
In practice
If it is heat-sealed in impervious plastic and the seal is intact, the guideline says it may be considered not contaminated; other packages are checked for tears.
Where people slip
Facility policy may be stricter, and when in doubt the package is reprocessed.
