The idea

Any doubt about an item's sterility is resolved the same way: it is treated as not sterile.

This applies to a questionable package, an indicator that is hard to read, or an item whose processing nobody can confirm.

This is surgical conscience applied to supplies, and it is never a judgment on the person who raised the doubt.
