The Air-Removal Test

The idea
A prevacuum steam sterilizer is tested every day it is used with an air-removal test, often called the Bowie-Dick test.
In practice
A test pack runs in an empty chamber before the first load; an even color change shows air was removed, and a spot shows trapped air.
Where people slip
If the test fails, the sterilizer is not used until it is inspected and passes.
