Loyalists, Patriots, and Who the War Changed

Captions available

The idea

The Revolution divided colonists into Patriots and Loyalists from every class. Dunmore's Proclamation offered freedom to enslaved people who fought for Britain. The war opened new roles for women and Black people.

In practice

Loyalists leaving for England, Canada and the West Indies.

Where people slip

Sample question nine asks how war widened women's work. This is the first instance; unit two carries the world wars.
