Captions available
The idea
Federalists backed the seventeen eighty-seven Constitution and a strong central government; Anti-Federalists wanted stronger states. The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments, adopted in seventeen ninety-one, answered many of their fears.
In practice
Speech, worship, jury trial and arms, guaranteed after ratification.
Where people slip
Unit seven teaches the ratification argument in full. Here the promise of amendments carried the vote.
