The Small and Large Intestines
Captions available
The idea
The small intestine completes digestion and absorbs nutrients; the large intestine produces no digestive enzymes.
In practice
The small intestine has three parts, the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, and empties into the large intestine, which ends at the rectum and anus.
Where people slip
Stool specimens for testing come from the end of this tract, as unit seventeen covers.
