The idea
The urinary system includes the kidneys, which make urine, the ureters, the bladder and the urethra.
In practice
Urine travels from each kidney down a ureter to the bladder, a storage reservoir in the pelvis, whose smooth muscle wall contracts to empty it.
Where people slip
Urine reflects what the kidneys filter, which is why a simple urine test reveals so much.
