The Digestive Tract
Captions available
The idea
The digestive tract is one long tube that opens at the mouth and ends at the anus.
In practice
Its wall has four layers, from the inner mucous lining to the outer covering, with smooth muscle layers that move food along.
Where people slip
Accessory organs such as the liver sit outside the tube but are essential to digestion.
