The idea
After collection, a specimen is capped, labeled, bagged and sent to the laboratory.
In practice
Close the container tightly, clean the outside if the procedure calls for it, place it in a transport bag, and document the collection.
Where people slip
Follow the lab's storage instructions, such as refrigeration, until the specimen leaves.
