Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 14 MAS 327 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Supine and Prone
Captions available
The idea
In the supine position the patient lies flat on their back; in the prone position the patient lies on their stomach.
In practice
Supine is common for chest and abdominal exams; in prone, the head is turned to one side, and pillows can support the lower legs.
Where people slip
Some patients short of breath cannot lie flat; ask before you position them.
