The idea
Whether exposure leads to infection depends partly on the person exposed.
In practice
Someone with a weakened immune system, or whose natural defenses cannot fight the germ off, becomes infected more easily; broken skin and mucous membranes are open doors.
Where people slip
You cannot tell who is susceptible by looking. Protect every patient as if they were.
