Educational Psychology / Unit 8 EDP 0704 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Standardization and Mental Age
Captions available
The idea
Intelligence tests must be reliable, valid and standardized, with norms gathered by age so a score can be compared with same-age peers; mental age is the age whose typical performance a child's score matches.
In practice
An eight-year-old who performs like a typical ten-year-old has a mental age of ten.
Where people slip
Without norms, a raw score means nothing.
