The idea
The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, the WAIS-IV, covers ages 16 to 90 with 15 subtests yielding four index scores: verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed.
In practice
Children take the WPPSI-IV, for preschoolers, or the WISC-V, for school-age children.
Where people slip
Its reliability exceeds 0.95, but reliability alone does not guarantee validity.
