Gardner's Multiple Intelligences

Captions available

The idea

Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, from Frames of Mind, names eight: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalistic.

In practice

A dancer excels in bodily-kinesthetic intelligence; a counselor, in interpersonal; a naturalist sorting plant species, in naturalistic.

Where people slip

Gardner proposed a ninth, existential intelligence, without strong support; Sternberg names three, Gardner eight.
