Educational Psychology / Unit 3   EDP 0212 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Sensation and Perception

Captions available

The idea

Sensation is the sense organs registering information; perception is the brain interpreting it, and vision is the least developed sense at birth.

In practice

A newborn sees best at eight to sixteen inches and prefers looking at faces.

Where people slip

Hearing is keen from birth, and newborns prefer voices, especially their mother's; sensing a sound is not yet understanding it.
