Educational Psychology / Unit 3   EDP 0216 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Plasticity and Lateralization

Captions available

The idea

Neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to change with experience, is greatest in childhood, and lateralization gives the two hemispheres different strengths.

In practice

The left hemisphere leads language production; the right leads visual and spatial processing.

Where people slip

The corpus callosum links the two hemispheres and grows fast between three and six, aiding two-handed coordination.
